HFES is excited to host you during our in-person event for the 65th Annual Meeting and is committed to providing a safe environment at the annual meeting for attendees and staff. Our planning team closely monitors developments related to COVID-19 and the recommendations from both local and national health officials. While planning for our time together on-site in Baltimore will be fluid, we have outlined several measures that may be implemented this year.  COVID-19 related guidances may change quickly and HFES and the Marriott hotel will take measures to ensure a safe, clean and healthy environment. This may include any of the following:

  • Hand sanitizing stations

  • Temperature checks

  • Socially distant seating

  • Wearing of masks indoors

  • No contact beverage or food stations

  • To reduce the interpersonal handling of goods, tote bags and other conference swag may be eliminated.

  • Function room cleaning between sessions

  • Digital only program via mobile app to limit touchpoints

  • Other measures as advised or required

Attendees must agree to annual meeting terms and conditions, abide by all posted safety guidelines, and release the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society from risks associated with attending the annual meeting.

We continue to closely monitor the coronavirus outbreak as the health, safety and well-being of the HFES community is our highest priority. HFES will continue to actively assess the situation and distribute further information and updates from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and World Health Organization. We track travel restrictions issued by the U.S. Department of State, and will follow the advice of the World Health Organization and U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. HFES will issue periodic updates as they become available.

Pre-Meeting Guidance

  • Attendees should closely monitor all travel alerts issued by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

  • Attendees are encouraged to monitor the CDC website for additional information, and review and follow the WHO’s Travel Advice, as well as its recommendations for protecting themselves from an infection.

  • Attendees should check their individual airlines for specific cancellation / refund policies. HFES will not be responsible for any airline cancellation or change fees should you be unable to attend for any reason.

  • All attendees should check themselves for symptoms before starting travel.

In addition to HFES-specific measures, the Baltimore Marriott Waterfont Hotel may implement its own safety measures and procedures. HFES will work closely with the hotel to promote recommended best practices related to venue cleaning, food handling, and social distancing.

We are eager to host you in-person for our 65th International Annual Meeting and are committed to doing so safely. We will continue to keep you informed about our plans to ensure you feel welcome joining us with clear expectations for your 2021 Annual Meeting experience. Thank you for your support of HFES!
